Owners and Slaves

It seems that all the promises for substance prosperity that God makes are hinged on being self employed. Again, in the Bible there are only two kinds of employed people, Slaves and Business Owners.

*   Proverbs 12:11  He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

*   Proverbs 28:19  He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

Deuteronomy 30:9  And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:

Again, if you don’t have cattle or land (your own business) God can’t bless it.

Can someone prosper as an employee?

Certainly they can if that business has room for an income that is sufficient to meet the Biblical or individual’s criteria of Prosperity. The fact is that “prosperity” is very subjective. For some, prospering is making $50,000 a year and to others 50k would be poverty. It depends on the individuals dream or goal that determines that. Usually prosperity is “having more than enough”. God wants us to have “more than enough” so we can help others. The poor can not help the poor, they can’t even help themselves.

The most successful employee (slave) in the Bible was Joseph. The position he finally held was second only to Pharaoh. He was the second most powerful man in Egypt. That is not too bad for an employee (slave). Although, he did get sold into slavery, thrown in prison and almost executed twice before he ended up working for Pharaoh. If your boss isn’t a Pharaoh and nobody that works where you work as an employee is rich, chances are you won’t be either. Even if there was such a thing as a “good job,” it still isn’t “yours”. And think about it, why would someone want to work for years for something that they don’t own and couldn’t sell, or leave to their children as an inheritance. Unfortunately, most clock punchers (employees) don’t think like that. They are like the Hebrews. After they were delivered from bondage in Egypt, every time the road got a little challenging they wanted to go back to Egypt and return to bondage. It seems interesting that the Bible calls most employees “slaves” or “bond-servants”. I guess because the bottom line is,  if you don’t own the “field” the harvest isn’t yours. If you put your hand to someone else’s “field”, even if you love God with all your heart, the owner of the field will get the blessing, not you.

1 Peter 2:18  Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh.

Some employees that make serious incomes work on Commission or a salary plus commission or productivity bonuses. It is said that the highest income earners in the world are salesman. To a certain degree they are all in business for themselves. As a realtor my wife always said, when asked if she was self employed, “No I’m God employed” acknowledging the source of her success.  God doesn’t care how much you make as long as He gets the credit and you don’t heap it upon yourself.

In the movie “Schindler’s List”, Schindler, a business owner, traded his entire sizeable fortune to help save 1200 Jews from certain death in Nazi death camps. Once God touched his heart his abundance was put to God’s purpose. Only the rich who don’t know the real purpose of abundance, feel guilty about being rich, and go out of their way to keep others from being rich thinking they are saving them. Families such as the Kennedy’s are perfect examples of this. The father amassed huge wealth from whiskey smuggling and when his children went into politics, they focused on taking money from other rich people to give it to the poor people. And all this was driven by rich white guilt. Schindler didn’t feel guilty he was rich, he felt guilty when he ran out of money trying to help. If the Kennedy’s had given away their money to the poor their guilt would have gone away and we would not have been inflicted with their judgment for an entire generation.

I heard one time someone say, “Liberalism is a mental disorder”. After watching many of these rich liberal politicians; trying to make everyone equally poor, yet living like spoiled Kings and Queens themselves; Acting like they are doing everyone a favor and demanding they should be honored for their hypocrisy, (+“Oh Bama won’t you buy me 3 more Gulfstream Jets. We already fly first class, but we’re important as heck+.) I think I know now why God kicked Lucifer out of Heaven.

It is the difference of using wealth to lord over people or to serve people. God wants us to serve people; He has the lording thing under control. (God is not tempted nor can He be corrupted.) Lording is like Communism, it only works in Heaven with God in charge. When tried by man it only creates dictators and tyrants. When Lucifer tried it, even angles fell under the weight of it.. Serving on the other hand, works for everyone, every time it is tried. It is the purest form of giving and GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER.
